Unboxing: Huawei P9

Huawei's New Device Makes a Statement
When Huawei first introduced its flagship device, many wondered if it is ready to take on the big leagues and rock the world stage. With the first high-end device it made, the Huawei P8, the China-based smartphone brand proved itself. Now with the Huawei P9, it is making a statement.
The pristine white box the flagship smartphone comes in shows off, from the get-go that the Huawei P9 is in a class of its own. Here is the quick unboxing video that shares in detail the entire experience of opening up this classy package.
It's definitely not the usual 'take out the phone and pull out the charger and USB charger cable underneath' experience. Each aspect of the box is well-thought and, in reinforcing this notion, the design within also uses a smart and clean concept. Each compartment has its own pack to ensure all bundled items are seated in their own designated zones within.
Minimalist Design
As for the Huawei P9, it is the epitome of minimalism as the flagship smartphone further refines the design and user experience benchmarks that its predecessor has set. Impossibly thinner and using a chassis that perfectly mixes glass and metal, this high-spec smartphone is more comfortable to hold, is not as slippery, and has features that facilitate one-hand use.
The first aspect is due to the fact that the sharp-edges that had been present on the Huawei P8 has been replaced a rounded design that fully complements the slightly chamfered sides and 2.5D glass used for its 5.2in Full HD display. The second factor is achieved through the use of a sand-blasted back that accentuates the aluminum unibody. This move ensures the Huawei P9 is smooth to the touch but not as slippery as a slick and polished backplate would be.
In terms of buttons and slots, the Huawei P9 has the usual setup—power and volume rocker buttons—parked on the right sideframe. On the left is the dual SIM tray slot that rocks a hybrid design so one of the trays can take on a microSD flashcard. Up top is the secondary microphone while at the opposite end is the USB Type-C charger, 3.5mm audio jack, and primary speaker grill.
As for the backplate, on the top left corner is the dual lens 12MP main camera that Huawei and Leica co-developed. Parked next to that are the laser auto-focus system and dual tone flash. Dead centre is the advanced fingerprint scanner that Huawei claims can unlock the screen in mere seconds.
Up front, there is the 8MP camera that sits next to the main earpiece.
In terms of first impressions, the Huawei P9 is definitely as impressive as the specs say it is. The flagship manages to take loads of processes and not show any sign of slowdown. Its speedy boot-up time is truly an indication of what it is capable of once it's taken out of the box.
A more in-depth take will be shared in the upcoming review.
